Goal

The goal of Routt County United Way’s Holiday Exchange Market will be to bring together the entire community in sharing, so that all families can enjoy quality holiday gifts and meals no matter what their financial means. And all families can take pleasure in donating something to a common cause.

About

In 2015, the Holiday Exchange Market served 743 individuals, comprising 187 families.

The purpose of Routt County United Way’s Holiday Exchange Market is to assist struggling individuals and families in Routt County at a very tough time of year. Usually, this program comes at a time where many people have just squeaked through mud season and are living hand-to-mouth until the ski season starts. Some folks are hired early but their paycheck is not effective for two to three weeks after they start working. This time can be extremely tough.

But, rather than one-way giving as before, the goal of Routt County United Way’s Holiday Exchange Market will be to bring together the entire community in sharing, so that all families can enjoy quality holiday gifts and meals no matter what their financial means. And all families can take pleasure in donating something to a common cause.

How does the program work?

The program works by everyone involved donating something: volunteer time, new winter clothing, food cards, money or new toys.

Gift recipients are invited to participate by either volunteering somewhere in the community for 2 hours or making a $10 donation to the Market. There are many volunteer opportunities in our town or the recipient may choose to help at the Market. If a family member cannot volunteer for 2 hours, the family can donate $10 to the Market.

This way, everyone who participates also gives something to make it a success.

Individuals, churches, organizations and businesses donate all the new winter clothing, money, food cards and/or new toys to the Holiday Exchange Market.
