In an effort to increase poverty awareness in our community, Routt County United Way is initiating “31 Days of Poverty” in the month of July. The goal of this awareness program is to both illustrate how pervasive poverty is in our community as well as to propose potential solutions. For example, did you know that 2,829 Routt County families are living at or below the Routt County Self-Sufficiency Standard.
“31 Days of Poverty” will share daily Routt County poverty facts on Facebook and feature several events, including:

July 13, 2016 7:00pm at Library Hall for the viewing of Poverty, Inc., Fighting poverty is big business but who profits most? The West has positioned itself as the protagonist of development, giving rise to a vast multi-billion dollar industry – the business of doing good has never been better. Yet, the results have been mixed, in some cases even catastrophic, and leaders in the developing world are growing increasingly vocal in calling for change. Drawing from over 200 interviews filmed in 20 countries, Poverty, Inc. unearths an uncomfortable side of charity we can no longer ignore. From TOMs Shoes to international adoptions, from solar panels to U.S. agricultural subsidies, the film challenges each of us to ask the tough question: Could I be part of the problem?
