Get Involved Routt County

Routt County United Way is the go-to for volunteer opportunities in our community. Volunteering is essential to keeping our community connected and supporting our local causes. We want to give you as many options as possible to be a volunteer and to make a difference in our community.

Time Sensitive

Family Development Center needs volunteers for the annual Casino Night benefit. Volunteers will serve as dealers for blackjack, poker, and roulette. Training will occur just prior to the event on Saturday, March 9 at 6:15 pm at the Steamboat Grand. The event is 7-10 pm. Volunteers may deal for 1.5 hours or 3 hours. Mountain Village Montessori needs volunteers to teach or help with Wednesday Workshops. Workshops run in 8-9 week sessions from 2-3pm on Wednesdays to enrich the lives of students in a creative and hands on way. Workshop leaders are needed for our upcoming session March 20- May 22, Wednesdays 2-3pm. Anyone who has a trade, skill, hobby or interest to share with students ages 6-12 are encouraged to sign up! Routt County Council on Aging needs volunteers one day per month to help senior citizens with home projects. Projects may include things like changing light bulbs, moving items to lower shelves, changing smoke detector batteries -basically tasks involving staying safe in one’s home. Tasks are fairly light in nature and should take about one hour to complete. Contact April at april@rccoaging.org or stop by the office at the Steamboat Community Center for more details.

will be hosting a Volunteer Recruitment Night from 7:00-8:30 on Tuesday February 26th. Please join us and learn about the ways you can bless the lives of at-risk youth in Routt County. From working front desk, to tutoring, to providing meals; there is a place for everyone in seeing lives changed. Yampatika needs volunteers to help support Naturalists leading winter environmental education programs. Volunteers help with snowshoe programs, walking tours and kids’ camps. They do not lead programs but rather provide support, so no experience or environmental education credentials are required. 
Yampatika is all about taking the classroom outdoors and having fun. Volunteering is a great way to get involved in the community and expand your knowledge of the abundant natural resources here in the Yampa Valley. Arts & Culture 

Strings Music Festival seeks new volunteers to serve as ushers for 2019 summer concerts and events from June through August. Strings hosts approximately 30 musical performances featuring classical, rock, jazz, children’s genres, and community events. The majority of performances are during the evening. Volunteers are asked to commit to 3-5 events during the summer. Volunteers are an important part of the Strings team, as they ensure a positive experience for patrons. Crisis Services

LiftUp Of Routt County has on going opportunities to volunteer in our Food Bank, Donation Center, and Thrift Store. The tasks range from organizing products, assisting customers, sorting donations, and picking produce. Email volunteer@liftuprc.org

Direct Client Support

Horizons in Routt County is seeking volunteers! Gregarious people who receive services from Horizons are looking for an opportunity to spend time in our community. Whether it be a cup of coffee, running an errand or cheering on the home team, the weekly one-hour outings will have significant impact on their lives and yours. Education

Comunidad Integrada/Integrated Community needs volunteers one hour per week with a student grade K-5 to work with them on literacy or math.Available options:- One on one with a student- Homework club Mondays 3:45-5:00- small group reading/tutoring. Sk8 Church thrives to meet the needs of youth in this community. Many of our students have expressed academic achievements as goals they strive to reach for the year. To help students achieve their goals, Sk8 Church is in need of tutors for our after school program. We will work with interested tutors on days of the week and times. Specific subjects students have expressed needing help with are math and language arts at middle and high school levels.

Young Tracks Preschools & Childcare Center needs volunteers to help with interior facility cleaning. Quarterly deep cleaning includes; scrubbing walls, chairs and tables. Can be a group project for up to 6 people. Approximately 2-4 hours. Suitable for youth and adult volunteers. Call Kim at 970-879-5790. 

Young Tracks Preschools & Childcare Center needs volunteers to help with one-time exterior project. Work includes; re-distributing pea gravel on playground and moving chain link fence, remove and replace sunshade, which will require being on a ladder. Approx 2-4 hours of work. Routt County Women United is organizing a volunteer reading program with local schools in Routt County. Reading with kids is the top indicator of academic success. Volunteers are needed to read with students or help them with homework after school. There are multiple times and locations available, all signups are organized online. Please email Amanda Lacey at amandaslacey@gmail.com for questions. Our biggest need for reading volunteers currently is at South Routt Preschool in Yampa.

Health

Northwest Colorado Health is in need of agency volunteers to assist staff fulfill the needed daily activities of the organization. This may include office work, agency events, helping patients with paperwork or answering questions. Please contact Kyleigh Lawler at (970) 871-7609 or klawler@northwestcoloradohealth.org.

Northwest Colorado Health needs volunteers for their Hospice Program. The Hospice volunteer enhances the quality of care to the hospice client, provides caregivers time away from the responsibility of total patient care, and provides physical/emotional support and companionship to the client. UCHealth/Yampa Valley Medical Center (YVMC) needs volunteers to help the librarians in our free lending library help physicians, staff and community members research medical topics and check out books. Youth Services 

Boys and Girls Club of Steamboat needs energetic volunteers who wish to devote time to working with children, volunteers are needed each day after school. Opportunities include arts and crafts, homework help, PE participation, and various recreational activities. After school days we are in need Monday – Friday between 3-5:30pm. Partners in Routt County needs Mentors/Senior Partners for their Community Based Mentoring program serving youth ages 6-17 who need additional support and encouragement from a positive adult mentor. The Senior Partner makes a commitment to spend a few hours a week with his or her Junior Partner for a minimum of one year. The Senior Partner serves as friend, advocate, and role model to the Junior Partner. Partners provides volunteers with in-depth training; support from our case managers; and fun planned activities and local discounts to take advantage of to spend time with your Junior Partner. Sk8 Church needs volunteers to help with worship. Worship is a core part of Sk8 Church. They play music on Thursday nights for high school/college students, and also have worship nights once a month. Sk8 Church is always looking for talented photographers and videographers to capture moments and produce content to share on social media and at fundraising events. There is always something cool happening at Sk8 Church. Whether it’s someone landing an awesome new trick in the park after school, or a special event. 

Sk8 Church provides youth in the community with two free meals a week. One meal for middle school students every Monday night, and another for high school/college students every Thursday night. Sk8 Church is able to provide these meals because they are generously donated by individuals, families, groups, and organizations within the community. Meal volunteers (and the delicious food they bring) are crucial to making our programs so special for students. 

Sk8 Church is open every weekday from 2-6pm for our after school program. Anyone who comes into Sk8 Church during these times will be greeted by a friendly Front Desk volunteer. Front Desk volunteers help operations at Sk8 Church run smoothly as they open and close Sk8 Church for the after school program (2-6pm) and talk with anyone who comes into Sk8 Church during these hours. Serving at the Front Desk is an interactive and hands-on way to serve the youth in our community. 

Yampa Valley Autism Program  needs volunteers for their GrowDome community cultivation project. This program is led by their youth will be running year round, so they would love some volunteers for the winter. Call Lisa at 970-846-1519 to get involved!
